SOMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS

Team 102 Gearheads

Community

Team 102 very eagerly and enthusiastically participates in the communities of Somerville and Branchburg. We host many local events, both for fun and for funding. In the past few years alone, we have participated in a local Memorial Day Parade, the Branchburg Country Fair, and the Somerset County 4-H Fair. In addition, we won the highly prestigious Gracious Professionalism award in 2010 because of our generous donations of tool chests to other local teams, aiding a rookie team at a nearby school and another team in Brazil in their competitions, donating laptops to Haiti, and even hosting a blood drive. You could say that the team has literally donated their blood, sweat, and gears for the sake of the award. We have also constructed a field at the Somerville Street Fair in the same year, holding a mini-competition with other robotics teams in the area. We hope to make an annual event of this, and hopefully recruit more teams in the future. Community participation is very important to us as a team, which is why we try our best to make ourselves known for what we do. It's never about the awards, or the publicity... it's simply about the feeling of success and achievement we earn from doing the things we do, and knowing that we put our best effort into showing that we care.
