SOMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS

Team 102 Gearheads

This Season

In the robotics season of 2011, the challenge is called “Logomotion”. The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible by arranging tubes of different shapes and colors – a red triangle, a white circle, and a blue square – in the shape of the FIRST logo on a peg board on the opposite sides of the game board. Each match begins with a brief autonomous period, in which the robots are programmed to place yellow “Ubertubes” on the game pegs in order to score bonus points. At the end of each match, robots will deploy Minibots onto four metal poles standing in the center of the field. The first Minibot to the top of the pole scores thirty extra points, the second one scores twenty, the third scores fifteen, and the final one scores ten. Potentially, a team could score over 100 points during a good round.

Our current robot is well under way, sporting new Jaguars and victors motor controllers, as well as a new gaming adapter just for this season. The design consists of a chassis and a boom with the likeness of a forklift. Six-inch mecanum wheels allow for our robot to strafe around other robots and achieve very high speeds. With this technology our team is aiming for a design that can achieve speeds that will leave the other teams robots in the dust. We are looking forward to a successful and exciting year, and we wish good luck to all participating teams!
